【Event Recap】The GBA Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Competition 2023-24

"The GBA Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Competition 2023-24", jointly organized by Trumptech and SenseTime, concluded its primary and secondary school division successfully from 19th to 20th July. This year's competition garnered overwhelming participation from 27 teams, showcasing the next generation's fearless spirit in exploring the realm of AI and aligning perfectly with the burgeoning trend of STEAM education in Hong Kong.

A Journey from Discovery to Creation

Centered around the theme of "Smart Campus," the competition guided students through a four-step process, inspiring them to delve into issues within campus life and devise innovative solutions leveraging AI applications. Teams were tasked with utilizing the designated SenseStorm 3 AI set to create functional AI projects, presenting their creations to judges and answering probing questions. This endeavor not only fostered innovative thinking but also propelled AI forward for social good.

Step 1: To identify and analyze the problems in campus and develop comprehensive solutions, with the theme of “Smart Campus”.

Step 2: With AI technologies such as facial recognition, image classification, and speech recognition in mind, students brainstormed solutions tailored to their identified problems.

Step 3: Teams put their skills to the test, using the SenseStorm 3 AI set to build and refine their AI prototypes, ensuring their creations were both functional and effective.

Step 4: Showcased their work through videos, presentations, and live demos, explaining the functionality, underlying principles, and AI techniques employed.

On the day of the competition, we are honored to invite Mr. Chan Wing Tak, Information Technology Officer of Shun Tak Fraternal Association Cheng Yu Tung Secondary School, Mr. TCHIANG Carlos Do Rosario, Chairman of Hong Kong Technology Education Association, Mr. Ng Ka Shun, Project Manager of Trumptech. They evaluated each entry based on "Innovation", "Practicality", "Technical difficulty" and "Display effect".

Igniting Independent Thinking and Inquiry

As students transformed their ideas into reality, they honed their proficiency in SenseStorm 3 set manipulation, coding and AI application. The Q&A sessions allowed judges to delve into the teams' design concepts and assess the feasibility of their creations. This process bolstered students' self-learning abilities, confidence, and presentation skills, demonstrating their profound understanding and unique perspectives on AI's transformative power.
